Raphael was envisioned by owner John Petrocelli. At a young age, he first learned the pleasures of winemaking through his father and grandfather, who were avid home winemakers in New York. As owner of J. Petrocelli Construction Inc., a business with over 50 years of expertise in fine architectural design and commercial construction, John Petrocelli was able to turn his dream into a reality. Today, he continues the family tradition on the North Fork of Long Island. Established in 1996, Raphael was inspired by Italian monasteries and named in honor of John Petrocelli’s father.
Nestled near Peconic Bay, Raphael is dedicated to the production of world-class Merlot. The moderating influence of surrounding waters provides mild winters, dry summers, and long, warm autumns, which allow our fruit to fully ripen, achieving perfect balance, aroma and flavor. Our very first planting and vintage on the estate was in 1997. The Petrocelli family prides itself on attention to detail, fine craftsmanship, and devotion to quality in every aspect of grape growing and wine making.
